Event Details
The Latin American Cultural Union is recruiting individuals for its Board of Directors. Since 1986, our mission has been to affirm and enhance the cultural and artistic manifestation of Latino culture through music, dance, visual arts, crafts, literature, social interactions and other academic expressions. LACU belives in the power of the arts to bring communities together, to enhance the possibilites for different cultures to work together and build bridges.
Who can become a Board Member?
We are looking for individuals who share our passion and our mission. Board positions are open to anybody in the community 18 years of age or older. You do not have to be Latino to be on the board. You just need a love for Latino culture.
What are the benefits of being a Board Member?
This is a great opportunity to become involved in a Latino grassroots organization, learn the dynamics of non-profit leadership and help to promote and preserve Latino Culture in Pittsburgh. Past board members have found the directorship to have been of real value in growing their professional resume.
What is the commitment?
Becoming part of our working board is a two year commitment and requires the ability to donate about 2-5 hours per week in volunteer time. Positions can be cross-shared.
What is the process?
Step 1: Nomination Process
The Nomination period will open on Friday, May 14th and close on Friday May 28th. Individuals can nominate themselves for a position or be nominated by someone from the Pittsburgh community.
All nominees are strongly encouraged to attend an information session on Friday, May 14th at 6:00pm at the Riverwalk Coprate Center on the Southside. The information session will cover the board responsibilities in more detail.
Step 2: Elections
Elections will take place on Thursday, June 3rd, 2010 at the Riverwalk Corporate Center on the Southside. All nominees who decide to run for the board must attend the elections so LACU members have the opportunity to meet them.
Step 3: Election results are announced to the community
Election results will be known the night of the elections and then announced to the community. The official start date of the new board is Friday, July 9, 2010.
